I received these two pictures by email today. They have millions of words. But don't make a mistake, the first picture is taken in Tehran and the second one in London:

Yes, there are lots of reasons for these differences, but one for sure is that the people hate to be ordered to do what or to avoid what. Once I travelled to Turkey by bus. The amazing thing was that when in Iranian cities, there were women with tight clothes and headscarves sliding back centimeter by centimeter, in Turkey I hardly could see women without scarves and Islamic hijab. The first groups of women with a modern looking I saw just close to Istanbual on the far west of the country.
The Iranian ladies look quite elegant. Now the second one, would that classify as a burqa? You can still see the eyes. It's getting to be a complicated world, I must say.
Just take any flight out of Iran and see how long it takes for the ladies (especially young ones) to return back to normal clothes. Usually hijab is gone after the "cabin crew please close doors" announcement.

The difference between the two pisture is a major substantial one that nobody seemed to point at: the Irani ladies are Shiite, while the ninjas (that's how we call tehm in Damascus) are Wahabit school Sunni. Islamic Revolution?

Being more than one year in office, Ahmadi-nejad shows himself more concerned about the foreign policy rather than domestic issues which are huge in number and terrible in depth.
Trying to work on the issues like Holocaust, he loves to grab attention and support abroad among those millions who are sick on hegemonic power of the States and their ally in the region ('ally' is the most respectful word I can find for US-Israel relations). Being abroad a while back, I could see his tricks have played so good so far. He is gaining support -at least emotional support- among progressive people. Good for Mr Ahmadi-nejad and his gang. Who could ever imagine of this popularity when he nominated himself for presidancy?
